Morningside overwhelms CSM, climbs into GPAC top three

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A 22-2 shots advantage and goals tallied from five different sources guided Morningside College to a Great Plains Athletic Conference win Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Head coach Tom Maxon's Mustangs, improving to 5-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the league, stretched their win streak to three in front of a happy home crowd at Elwood Olsen Stadium. Junior midfielder Makenzie Homan (JR/Omaha, Neb.) (Omaha, Neb.) produced the eventual game-winner less than five minutes in, and senior midfielder Alexandra Homan (SR/Omaha, Neb.) (Omaha, Neb.), playing double-duty in goal and on the field for the Maroon, joined freshman midfielder Sina Feeser (FR/Heilbronn, Germany) (Heilbronn, Germany) in tallying a pair of assists to help fuel the offense.

"College of Saint Mary was going strong coming in after a pair of one-goal losses to Hastings College and Midland University," Maxon noted. "Tonight, though, we really stepped up and played our game the entire 90 minutes --- moving the ball, possessing the ball, finding multiple chances at their goal, etc."

Senior midfielder Oceanna Brenden (SR/Rapid City, SD) (Rapid City, S.D.) steered the offensive attack with eight total attempts, four of which were on goal. She found the back of the Flames net in the 63rd minute. Freshman midfielder Anna Ljulijic (FR/Neumuenster, Germany) (Neumuenster, Germany); senior forward Jayci Miller (SR/Rapid City, SD) (Rapid City, S.D.); and sophomore Cassandra Garcia (SO/Omaha, Neb.) (Omaha, Neb.) each added goals in the 5-0 victory.

The Mustangs are on the road Saturday, Oct. 31. They move into a top-five conference clash with Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D. Match time is 4:30 p.m.
