Morningside battles past MMU in Senior Night GPAC clash

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside College senior Alexandra Homan (SR/Omaha, Neb.) (Omaha, Neb.) continues to prove her versatility.

Already a household name in goal for head coach Tom Maxon's Mustangs, she flipped the field literally Saturday, Oct. 24. During a Senior Night 2020 in which she was one of 10 Maroon honored pre-match, Homan stepped into her midfielder role with flying colors. She produced 11 of the home team's 28 shot attempts, four of which were on frame and two that found their way into the back of the Mount Marty University net.

Homan's first career multi-goal outing was needed for the Mustangs (4-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 Great Plains Athletic Conference). Her first score occurred in the opening eight minutes, but MMU's defense, led by goalkeeper Jamie Tebben, kept it 1-0 until the Lancers' offense took advantage of a rebound and clouted home the tying goal in the 37th minute. Homan answered the call in the 58th minute, though, with the eventual match-winner which was followed in the late stages by freshman forward Jil Hellerforth (FR/Luedensheid, Germany)'s (Luedensheid, Germany) first collegiate goal to ice a 3-1 victory.

Junior Sarah Finn (JR/Tampa, Fla.) (Tampa, Fla.) earned her third career victory in goal, playing in the second half with one save to her credit. Senior Ruby Lemus (SR/South Sioux City, Neb.) (South Sioux City, Neb.), who made her first career start, tallied a save over the first 45 minutes.

Morningside continues its homestand Wednesday, Oct. 29. The College of Saint Mary of Omaha, Neb., visits Elwood Olsen Stadium for a 5:30 p.m. start.
