Mustangs climb leaderboard to third-place finish

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Morningside women's golf team on Tuesday placed third at the Kaitlyn Erickson Doane Invitational, played at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course on Monday and Pioneers Golf Course for Round 2.

Morningside ended up tied for the bronze with a team score of 673, and shot 321 as a group during the 18-hole rounds on Day 2.

Cameron Spellman placed the highest individually among Mustang golfers, as she shot a silver-medal, 36-hole score of 155. She shot a 76 to set the tone on Monday, while carding a 79. She had one birdie, which came on No. 6 on Monday.

Alysen Sander placed in a three-way tie for fourth, as she shot a 160. Sander shot 76 on Tuesday, which included just two bogeys on the front nine. She started the back nine with a birdie.

Lucy Brown clinched a 19th-place finish with a 167, while Aidan Sander was 28th at 172. Ainsley Hergert and Rachel Parks tied for 32nd at 174. Both ladies had a birdie: Hergert's came on No. 18, and Parks scored hers on the 11th.

Kendra Casey was 43rd (178), and Ella Welch was 55th at 185.
