
Women's golf adds to trophy case with GPAC Championship
SPENCER, Iowa – The Morningside women's golf team found itself on top of a leaderboard again Tuesday afternoon, but this time it was for the GPAC Championship, one that they won by thirty over the course of 54 holes Monday and Tuesday in Spencer, Iowa. Furthermore, Sofia Castelan claimed her third individual title in the last three seasons.
The Mustangs finished at 108-over par as a team for a team total of 972 strokes. No other team shot under 1000 strokes for the tournament, as Briar Cliff took second at 138-over (1002) and Dakota Wesleyan third at 154-over (1018).
Individually, Castelan finished at 12-over to take first place. She shot rounds of 75, 77, and 76 to finish at a total of 228 and won the individual title by eight strokes. Lucy Brown took third individually at 24-over (240). Alysen Sander took 14th at 37-over (253) and Aidan Sander tied for 16th at 39-over (255). Cameron Spellman wasn't far behind, tying for 21st at 42-over (258).
The Mustangs return to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships May 14-17 in Silvis, Illinois. They play the TPC Deere Run course, and is the third time that Castelan will compete at the NAIA Championships.
