
Mustangs look strong in nationally recognized field
LE MARS, Iowa – Morningside women's golf battled to a hard earned fifth place at the Northwest Iowa National Invite in Le Mars Monday and Tuesday.
The Mustangs shot 85-over par as a team to place fifth, four shots ahead of William Penn. Keiser took home the team title at a blistering 14-under par. Texas Wesleyan, Ottawa (Ariz.), and Mount Mercy were the top four squads.
Three of the four teams placed ahead of Morningside are ranked in the preseason Top 25 and four teams placing behind the Mustangs were receiving votes in the preseason poll.
Individually, Sofia Castelan had a pair of eagles and a pair of birdies to shoot 4-under Tuesday and finish even par for the tournament. The performance placed her in a tie for fourth.
Lucy Brown placed second on the Mustangs and tied for 34th overall at 25-over. Alysen Sander shot 30-over and Aidan Sander 33-over for the Mustangs. Ainsley Hergert went +38 for the week.
Morningside is back in action at the Southwest Minnesota State University Invite Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Marshall, Minn.
