SEWARD, NEB. – The Mustangs knew they were in for a fight as they lined up across from the no. 5 Concordia Bulldogs in their Great Plains Athletic Conference opener. Morningside outscored Concordia in the final 10 minutes of play, but differentials of six and eight points in the second and third quarters ended up being too much for the visitors' to overcome as they fell 74-62.
Ella Wragge led Morningside in scoring as she shot 70 percent from the floor and posted 16 points. Lily Vollertsen went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and added 13 points, and Sam Ehlers added nine as a reserve player.
Wragge and Alexis Spier each had six rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Vollertsen and Ehlers followed with four apiece.
Morningside heads to no. 17 Briar Cliff on Wednesday, tipping off in the Newman Flanagan Center at 6 p.m.
