Carr, Ehlers score 20 in season-opening win

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Jordyn Carr and Sam Ehlers each led the Morningside University women's basketball team on Tuesday with 20 points in a 93-87 win over No. 17 Grand View.

The Mustangs made 32 out of 62 shots, and opened the season shooting 60 percent from the floor throughout the first quarter. Morningside led 24-16 after the opening quarter.

Morningside made 10 3-pointers. Carr led the Mustangs with three 3s, while Ehlers and Clancy each hit two 3s.

The Mustangs were also successful from the free-throw line. They were 19-for-24, with Ehlers going 8-for-8 from the stripe.

The Mustangs outrebounded the Vikings 37-29, and Lily Vollertsen had the most with seven. Vollertsen had 17 points, while Alexis Spier scored 11. 

Dating back to the 2016-17 season, Morningside has won the home opener.

Morningside is on the road at Benedictine on Saturday, and it'll return to Allee Gymnasium on Nov. 9 with a game against Kansas Wesleyan.
