Morningside overcomes slow start to run past Doane 75-61

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Doane jumped out to the early lead Sunday afternoon inside of Allee Gymnasium and the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center, but the Mustangs took the lead with a last second shot by Chloe Lofstrom to go into the half. From there, it was all Mustangs as Morningside pulled away with a 75-61 win over the Tigers.

Lofstrom's bucket to end the first half gave Morningside a 35-34 advantage, and while the Tigers would go away easily, the Mustangs had enough momentum to pull away.

Chaise Pfanstiel scored all eight of her points in the third quarter to help Morningside open up a double digit lead. Doane finished the quarter strong to make it 55-48 heading into the fourth. It was all Mustangs in the fourth quarter as the lead grew to as much as 16 and Morningside hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Lofstrom led the Mustangs in scoring with 19 points, and grabbed six rebounds. She didn't miss a shot from the floor, going 7-for-7. Alexis Spier had a strong game all-around, totaling 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals. Jaeden Webb added 10 points and Sam Ehlers led scorers off the bench with nine points.

Morningside remains home to face Northwestern Wednesday at 6 p.m.
