Lily Vollertsen leads Mustangs in 90-52 loss to Dordt

Morningside falls in tussle with no. 2 Dordt

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A first-half deficit of 46-22 was more than enough to derail Morningside's hopes of a second-straight Great Plains Athletic Conference women's basketball win, as the Mustangs squared off with no. 2 Dordt. The Defenders cruised to a 90-52 win, sending Morningside to 4-3 and 1-2 in the GPAC.

Dordt's defense had the Mustangs locked down for the first nearly five minutes of play, setting the tone for the rest of the contest. Morningside had moments that looked like it might be able to correct its trajectory, but Dordt proved that its national ranking didn't come by chance.

Lily Vollertsen led the Mustangs on offense, working for 19 points against the stingy Defenders. Jaeden Webb followed with 11 points, playing into the final minutes of the contest.

Chloe Lofstrom led Morningside on the boards, pulling down seven caroms to share the top spot with three Defenders. Alexis Spier followed with five boards of her own.

Morningside will go back to work on Nov. 29, sharing the floor with no. 12 Briar Cliff at 6 p.m. in Allee Gymnasium.
