Mustangs extinguish the Flames

OMAHA, NEB. – The women's basketball team wasted no time putting Wednesday's loss to Northwestern in the rear view mirror, setting aside College of Saint Mary 87-54.

Morningside shot an even 50 percent in both three-pointers and overall field goals. The Mustangs also improved their turnover ratio, with 18 to the Flames' 31, accounting for 29 points off turnovers. Morningside also had 42 bench points in the contest.

Sophia Peppers led the Mustangs in scoring, with 18 points. Chaise Pfanstiel knocked down 12 points, Chloe Lofstrom and Olivia Larsen each had 10, and Aspen Jansa scored nine points. Mckenna Sims and Jansa each had four assists in the contest, while Pfanstiel had three.

Morningside's leading rebounder in the contest was Ella Wragge, who coming off the bench, grabbed five boards. Wragge was followed by a platoon of players, Alexis Spier, Lauren Hedlund, Larsen, Sims, Peppers, and Jansa, with three rebounds each. 

The Mustangs are back on the road on Feb. 1, traveling to Dordt University for a Wednesday contest, tipping at 6 p.m.
