Morningside falls 93-65

Mustangs fall to hot-shooting Raiders

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A tight game at the half turned ugly quickly as Northwestern shooting heated up in Allee Gym tonight. The Mustangs fell to the Raiders 93-65, as Northwestern shot 93 percent in the third quarter of the contest and better than 72 percent overall.

Morningside trailed by just one as the teams headed into the halftime break, unaware of what the visiting offense would unleash in the subsequent quarters. The Mustangs, who shot above their season average of 43.4 percent, saw a statistically normal game run away from them.

Leading Morningside in scoring was Sophia Peppers, who finished the game with 12 points. Olivia Larsen followed with 10, and Chloe Lofstrom recorded eight. Aspen Jansa and Chaise Pfanstiel led the team off the bench, with five points each.

McKenna Sims was the top rebounder for the Mustangs, with six boards, followed by Lofstrom with three. Peppers, Lauren Hedlund, Ella Wragge, and Lily Vollertson each had two rebounds.

Sims and Alexis Spier each had four assists to lead the team. Peppers had four steals, while Larsen and Hedlund each had two.

Morningside will hope to recover from today's loss on the road, traveling to College of Saint Mary on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
