Mustangs pick up victory in tight-margin contest

CRETE, NEB. – The Mustangs evened their overall record with a women's basketball win over Great Plains Athletic Conference opponent Doane today, picking up the victory by a narrow 97-93 margin. 

Morningside turned a 20-17 deficit at the end of the first quarter into a 45-44 advantage by halftime, widening the gap in the final two quarters of play.

The Mustangs were hot from beyond the three-point line, shooting 47.6 percent from downtown, good for 10 of 21 attempts, and 51.5 percent overall. Chloe Lofstrom led the team in scoring, with 22 points. She was followed by Aspen Jansa, with 18, McKenna Sims, with 16, and Sophia Peppers, with 12. Alexis Spier had a game-high 10 points off the bench

Lofstrom led all players in rebounds, collecting 16 in the contest. Her efforts helped guide Morningside to a 48-35 rebounding advantage. Sims was the next highest Mustang, pulling down five rebounds of her own. 

The Mustangs, now 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference, are quiet until next Wednesday, Nov. 30, when they host Concordia University in a 6 p.m. contest in Allee Gym.
