Women's basketball falls to no. 13 Sterling

STERLING, KAN. – The Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season, falling in women's basketball action to no. 13 Sterling in the Kansas town of the same name.

Morningside's loss came after the Mustangs held a 46-43 advantage as the two teams returned to their locker rooms at halftime, but a third quarter in which Sterling shot 64.3 percent from the floor and 71.4 percent from beyond the arc proved too much for Morningside to overcome as its defense couldn't shut down the Warriors once they found their groove.

Chaise Pfanstiel and Aspen Jansa led the Mustangs on offense, each tallying 24 points. The duo each hit six three-pointers, with Pfanstiel recording another six from the floor and Jansa hitting six free throws. Chloe Lofstrom recorded 15 points, with 12 from the floor.

Lofstrom had a game-high eight rebounds, with six on defense. Sadie Roth followed with seven rebounds. Sophia Peppers had six, and Olivia Larsen had five.

Morningside's next contest is its home opener against Great Plains Athletic Conference rival, Dakota Wesleyan, on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
