Mustangs open season with win over Ozarks

STERLING, KAN. – Morningside opened the women's basketball season with the College of the Ozarks Bobcats, playing on a neutral court at Sterling College. The Mustangs outworked the Bobcats, defeating them in a 67-46 victory. 

Morningside led the game from the tip to the final horn, starting with a Sophia Peppers three pointer 17 seconds into the game. This would be one of seven threes for the Mustangs, who shot 25 percent from beyond the arc and just better than 40 percent overall.

Chloe Lofstrom led Morningside in both scoring and rebounds, scoring 12 points and pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Peppers followed with 11 points and seven rebounds, with nine of her points coming from three-point land. Aspen Jansa put up 10 points, with six from beyond the arc.

Olivia Larsen was the leading scorer off the bench, with seven points and three rebounds. Lauren Hedlund followed with six points and three rebounds of her own.

Morningside is back on the hardwood tomorrow, playing host team Sterling at 2 p.m.
