SIOUX CITY, IOWA – An 8-2 stretch over the final minute and a half of the third period proved to be decisive for Morningside University Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The roll spurned visiting Concordia University's charge to begin the second half that saw them overtake the Mustangs after trailing by as much as 12 in the first 20 minutes. From that point forward, head coach Jamie Sale's team never trailed en route to an 89-83 win.

A balanced starting line-up attack guided Morningside's sixth straight win. Senior guard Sierra Mitchell (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) drained five three-pointers as part of a 26-point night. It was her 12th consecutive double-digit outing, of which three have gone for 25-or-more points. Fellow senior Sophia Peppers (Exira, Iowa) added 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a blocked shot from her forward spot.

Looking further into the numbers, sophomore center Chloe Lofstrom (Armstrong, Iowa) finished with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists; junior guard Makenna Sims (South Sioux City, Neb.) wound up with 11 points; and senior forward Taylor Rodenburgh (Hawarden, Iowa) recorded a double-double of 10 points and ten boards.

Mside (6-2 overall, 4-0 GPAC) resumes the 2021-22 league campaign Saturday, Dec. 4, hosting Mount Marty University. Game time is 4:30 p.m. at Allee Gymnasium of the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center.

NOTES: Mitchell's night moved her to third all-time on the school's scoring list (2,193 points). She goes into the weekend 17 points away from taking over the number two spot.
