Fast start aids Mustang triumph

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs continued to work through their home schedule tonight with another GPAC win over the Defenders from Dordt University. Morningside set the pace early in the 83-64 win, running to a 10-2 lead in the first minute and a half of the game.  

Morningside helped its own case, going 15-15 at the charity stripe, taking advantage of Dordt's 13 fouls while only committing 11. The Mustangs shot 43.3% from the field, connecting for 29 field goals in 67 attempts. Beyond the arc, moved back for the 2021-22 season, the home team went 10-29, good for 34.5%.

Taylor Rodenburgh was Morningside's top scorer, putting up 19 points in 32 minutes of play.  Sierra Mitchell knocked down 17, going 4/4 at the line.  Chloe Lofstrom was perfect beyond the arc, going 2/2 on her way to 15 points.

Lofstrom, recording a double-double, grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest, McKenna Sims had nine, and Alexis Spier led the rebounding efforts off the bench with five. The Mustangs had 43 rebounds in the contest, with 29 on defense.

Morningside is back in action on Saturday, welcoming Bellevue University to Allee Gym for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
