Century Celebration - Mustangs split southern Iowa trip

LAMONI, IOWA – Morningside College tallied 21 of the first 30 points Friday, Nov. 8, and didn't look back en route to a non-conference road win.

Head coach Jamie Sale's No. 19-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' squad hit the 100-mark for a second time in only four contests, cruising past Heart of America Conference foe Graceland University 100-59. The Mustangs, moving to 3-1, put four players in double figures on the Closson Gymnasium floor, as senior forward/center Sydney Hupp (SR/O'Neill, NE) (O'Neill, Neb.) produced her second 20-point-plus total scoring 20 to go with seven rebounds; sophomore Taylor Rodenburgh (SO/Hawarden, IA) (Hawarden, Iowa) came off the bench to contribute 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals; junior guard Sierra Mitchell (JR/Pleasant Hill, IA) (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) wound up with 13 points, hitting three three-point buckets along the way while also dishing out four assists and picking up three steals; and senior guard Jordyn Moser (SR/Harlan, IA) (Harlan, Iowa) added 11 points and five steals.

The steal category played a major part in the Maroon's success. Morningside garnered 24, as Graceland committed 39 turnovers. Thirteen of the 16 M'side players to get into the contest put up points.

Morningside begins its 2019-20 Great Plains Athletic Conference and home schedule Wednesday, Nov. 13. The College of Saint Mary of Nebraska visits Allee Gymnasium and Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
