Mustang women fall short in season finale

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Hoping to carry the momentum of its victory at Doane University alive into the GPAC Tournament, the Morningside women's basketball team headed to Jamestown, N.D. to wrap up the regular season. The host Jimmies bested the Mustangs today, 70-69.

Morningside trailed Jamestown by as much as 15 in the first half before battling back as it has so many times late this season. This time, the Mustangs were able to tie the game up with 2:47 to play courtesy of a field goal by Faith Meyer (SO/Pomeroy, IA ), and subsequently take the lead on a Faith Meyer free throw. The Jimmies retook the lead with 1:53 on the clock, with no one else scoring in the time remaining.

Morningside's Kailey Burke (SO/Hinton, IA) had a game-high 13 points, sharing the distinction with Jamestown's Noelle Josephson. Both players came off the bench.

In addition to Burke, Jordyn Moser (JR/Harlan, IA) had eight points, Faith and Grace Meyer (SO/Pomeroy, IA), Haleigh Melstad (FR/Vermillion, SD), and Sydney Hupp (JR/O'Neill, NE) each had six for the Mustangs.

Hupp led Morningside in rebounds with six. She was followed by Sophia Peppers (FR/Exira, IA) with five and Faith Meyer with four.

The Mustang women end the regular season 19-11 and 11-11 in the GPAC. They are back in action on Wednesday, visiting Dakota Wesleyan at 6:00 p.m. for the quarterfinal round of the GPAC Women's Basketball Tournament.
