Skid Stopper - Mside overcomes Midland

FREMONT, NEB. – Strong guard play from sophomore Sierra Mitchell (SO/Pleasant Hill, IA) (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) and junior Jordyn Moser (JR/Harlan, IA) (Harlan, Iowa) proved key to Morningside College Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The Mustangs, seeking a formula to end a three-game Great Plains Athletic Conference losing string, got just what was needed from the duo. Mitchell knocked down seven three-point baskets, upping her marvelous streak to 38 games in which she's hit at least one, in route to 25 points to signify the super soph's 13th straight double-figure scoring contest in which she's been at-or-above 20 points six times. Moser was just as solid finishing with 19 points to go with three steals and two assists.

Back to back treys from Mitchell sparked a quick 6-0 run in the third period to give Morningside (19-7 overall, 10-7 GPAC) a lead they wouldn't relinquish. That roll expanded to 26-7, as the Maroon overturned a 43-42 deficit in route to a 78-67 victory.

Head coach Jamie Sale's squad, moving back into a tie with Dordt College for fourth place in the league, concludes a two-game road set Saturday, Feb. 2. They face off with Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D., in a 2 p.m. tip-off.
