HONOLULU, HAWAII – The Morningside women hit the hardwood ready to play again in their second game of the Hoop N Surf Classic, this time defeating the Lake Forest College Foresters, 99-61. The Mustangs, now 11-3, led from the first basket, outscoring the opponents 33-13 in the first quarter.
Sierra Mitchell (SO/Pleasant Hill, IA) again led the Mustangs in scoring, piling another 16 points on to her already already impressive total for the year. Mitchell ranks 21st in the NAIA in total scoring, and leads Division II three-pointers made this season.
Joining Mitchell with double-digit scoring efforts were Sydney Hupp (JR/O'Neill, NE) with 11 points and Mady Maly (SO/Wahoo, NE) and Kailey Burke (SO/Hinton, IA) with 10 each. Maly went 3-for-3 from the charity stripe on the way to her 10 point, season-high effort.
Alexandra Gill (SR/Omaha, NE) led the Mustangs in the rebounds column, with 12, followed by Burke with 7.
Morningside is back in action when it returns to Sioux City to compete in the Delta Hotels by Marriott Holiday Classic on Dec. 29 and 30. The Mustangs will be playing at 3:00 p.m. each day.
