Thanksgiving Treat - Mside rolls over Doane

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The art of rebounding can occur in different ways.

Just ask head coach Jamie Sale and his Morningside College Mustangs. In need of a positive outcome after a 91-66 loss to Great Plains Athletic Conference rival Northwestern College just four days prior, they got that and more Tuesday, Nov. 20, to send their home crowd at Allee Gymnasium and the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center off to a happy Thanksgiving holiday.

The Maroon took off on a 7-0 run after made Doane College free throw and didn't look back in route to an 89-46 league victory. Sale's crew stifled the visiting Tigers to the tune of just over 35 percent field goal shooting and only one made three-point bucket over 40 minutes. On the offensive side, the home team was sizzling, hitting at a better than 53 percent clip overall which included draining nine three-pointers.

Junior guard Skyler Snider (JR/Kearney, NE) (Kearney, Neb.) led the individual numbers. She registered a personal single-game high 21 points to go along with four steals and two assists, both of which were also among squad bests. Junior forward Sydney Hupp (JR/O'Neill, NE) (O'Neill, Neb.) turned in a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and also blocked a pair of Doane shot attempts. Freshman forward Haleigh Melstad (FR/Vermillion, SD) (Vermillion, S.D.) came off the bench to total 10 points.

Morningside (5-1 overall, 3-1 GPAC) return to action Wednesday, Nov. 28. They travel to Concordia University of Nebraska for a 6 p.m. start.
