
Six softballers honored in GPAC all-conference release
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Great Plains Athletic Conference unveiled its all-conference honors for the softball season, naming five Mustangs to the two all-conference teams with another Morningsider receiving the honorable mention nod.
The league named Mackenzi Harrel and Paige Schuster to first team honors; Jenna Skradski, Adeline Fliege, and Morgan Secora to the second team; and Ellie Gengler honorable mention.
Harrel, a sophomore utility player who anchored right field for the Mustangs, tallied 48 RBIs with 11 home runs, three triples, and 10 doubles in the regular season. In 126 at bats, she had 51 hits and 11 walks, resulting in a batting average of .405 and an on base percentage of .457. Harrel also had a fielding percentage of .965, committing just two errors in 57 total chances. Harrel is from Lincoln, Neb.
Schuster, who was selected as the designated player, hit .441 as a starter in all 44 games. The sophomore from Pender, Neb. had an on base percentage of .487, 64 hits and nine walks, scoring 33 times and driving in 95 runs. Schuster was also a staple in left field for the Mustangs, recording 23 putouts in 26 total chances.
Skradski was selected as a second team infielder, after playing all 44 regular season games at the heart of Morningside's infield. The junior from Omaha, Neb., had a .941 fielding percentage with 11 errors in 186 total chances, amassing 66 putouts and 109 assists. At the plate she hit .391 with 30 hits and 23 RBIs, swiping nine bases to share the team lead.
Fliege, a freshman from Omaha, went 12-5 on the season in 17 starts. She had an ERA of 2.34 with 101.2 innings pitched, allowing 99 hits and 34 earned runs with an opponent batting average of .253.
Secora, a junior from Gretna, Neb., went 11-5 in 18 starts, accumulating an ERA of 2.47 in 104.2 innings pitched. She allowed 102 hits and 37 earned runs, with an opponent average of .252.
Both Fliege and Secora are among the top five pitchers in the conference in ERA.
Gengler hit .250 and had a fielding percentage of .894 at the hot corner. She had 31 hits with 23 RBIs.
