ORANGE CITY, Iowa — The Morningside University softball team lost two hard-fought games on Wednesday to seventh-ranked Northwestern by scores of 4-1 and 7-3. The Mustangs move to 15-11 overall and 3-3 in Great Plains Athletic Conference action.
During Game 1, the Red Raiders held the Mustangs scoreless through the first six innings, but Mackenzi Harrel in the seventh inning homered to put them on the board.
Morningside had six hits, two apiece from Harrel, Lainie Keller and Jenna Skradski.
Morgan Secora allowed three earned runs on nine hits. She struck out one hitter.
Then, in Game 2, Morningside scored first in the opening inning, as Jalyn Noelle scored on a fielder's choice hit by Ellie Gengler. Bralen Biddlecome later scored in the second inning.
Noelle scored in the fifth inning, as she earned an RBI groundout that scored Skradski.
Biddlecome and Adeline Fliege combined to allow seven earned runs on eight hits. They struck out one hitter.
