Noelle's RBI singles forces split at Gulf Coast Invite

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Jalyn Noelle drove in the go-ahead run during the fourth inning of the nightcap Friday to force a split at the Gulf Coast Invitational.

Morningside lost 2-0 to William Carey University in Game 1, then earned a 7-5 win over Texas A&M-San Antonio.

Game 1: William Carey 2, Mustangs 0

The Mustangs were held to two hits, both singles from Paige Schuster and Addyson Maxell.

Adeline Fliege allowed two runs on six hits in the loss. She pitched six innings, and she struck out three.

William Carey scored both its runs in the first inning.

Game 2: Mustangs 7, TAMU-San Antonio 5

Morningside led 4-0 after two innings. Ellie Gengler drove in Kennedy Wineland with a double in the first inning, then Gengler scored from a sacrifice fly from Mackenzi Harrel.

In the second inning, Maxell and Noelle had RBI singles.

The Jaguars responded with four runs during the third inning, but Noelle answered back with an RBI single during the fourth.

Jenna Skradski added two insurance runs by hitting a fifth-inning double that scored Harrel and Josie Hernandez.

Skradski and Bralen Biddlecome combined to pitch in the win. Skradski got the win in relief, but combined, the two Mustangs allowed one earned run on five hits.
