Cross country competes in Augustana Twilight Meet, Men place no. 30

Men's cross country opens at Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Mustangs opened the men's cross country season last night, running a four mile course at the Augustana Twilight Cross Country Meet. Morningside placed 30th in the competitive field, with Mason Welker claiming the top spot for the Mustangs, finishing in 22:09.11.

"Our men's team is a bit thin right now, but we have the potential to move up with some of the younger guys that we have," reflected head coach Frank Wallace after the meet.

Levi Son followed Welker for the Mustangs, crossing the finish with a time of 22:30.15. RC Hicks, Casey Kruger, and Nick Schiltz rounded out Morningside's top five, with times of 22:55.81, 22:56.99, and 23:02.74.

"These younger guys have been working hard to make the transition to running at this level," analyzed Wallace. "It's only a matter of time before it clicks."

The Mustangs are back in action in two weeks, competing in the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invite on Sept. 17, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Neb.
