
Steffans, VanDyke lead Mustangs in Missouri
MARSHALL, Mo. — Morningside University men's wrestlers Hunter Steffans and Alex VanDyke were the Top 2 scorers during a competitive Missouri Valley Invite on Saturday.
Steffans led the Mustangs with 5.5 team points wrestling in the 141-pound division. Steffans pinned his first opponent, Jace Goebel of Jamestown, in 2 minutes and 2 seconds. The Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School grad won by pinfall in 4:48 over Camden Whitehead of Texas Wesleyan in the second consolation round.
Vandyke won his first bout in a 15-6 major decision over Midway's Michael Colligan in the 174 bracket. His second win came during the second round of the consolations, and that was a pin in 4:12 over William Penn's Ryan Van Donselaar. His two-day sojourn earned him 4.5 points.
Caden Eggleston (157) and Blaine Christo (165) scored 3.5 points during the two-day tournament.
Morningside scored 24 points, en route to a 35th-place finish in the team standings.
