Mustang trio medals at Worthington Open

WORTHINGTON, Minn. – Three Morningside University men's wrestlers earned spots on the podium at the Worthington Open on Saturday, hosted by Minnesota West.

Zander Ernst placed second at 165 pounds, while Caelan Oakes Sudhish and Blaine Christo were seventh at 125 and 165, respectively.

Ernst made it to the championship round by receiving a first-round bye, then won two matches by major decision and a 10-4 win in the quarterfinals. He lost in the finals 11-0.

Sudhish lost his first match, but won his next three by pinfall, a common decision and a medical forfeit. He was pinned in the consolation semifinals, and then earned seventh with a no-contest win over Leo Edblad over St. Cloud State.

When Christo went into the consolation bracket, he pinned Minnesota West's Treveon Owens in the first period to advance. Then, Christo won by forfeit to stay alive. For the seventh-place match, he won by medical forfeit.

Alex Vandyke also won three matchups at the 174-pound division.
