Eight Mustangs receive GPAC honors

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Three Morningside wrestlers earned first team all-GPAC and five other Mustangs were honored by the conference Wednesday morning.

Taylor Vasquez (141-pounds) and Hunter DeJong (285-pounds) won their weight classes at the GPAC Tournament and earned first team all-GPAC honors. Hayden Wempen came up short in the championship match at 184, but still earned first team honors for his season.

Four additional Mustangs finished as second team all-conference members. Gabe Grice took second place at 125-pounds in last weekend's GPAC Tournament and received second team honors. Noah Styskal (157), Zander Ernst (165), and Jakob Jerabek (285) also received second team honors. Styskal and Jerabek made the championship match in their weight class at the GPAC Tournament. Alex Vandyke earned honorable mention at 174.

Morningside sends seven wrestlers to the NAIA Tournament coming up Feb. 29 through March 2.
