Wempen named wrestler of the week

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Following the Mustangs' 2022-23 Great Plains Athletic Conference title clinching weekend, the conference has also named Hayden Wempen its wrestler of the week for week 10 of the season.

Wempen went 4-0 last week, starting with a 19-4 tech fall in Wednesday's match against Northwestern. 

In Morningside's matches at Saturday's GPAC Duals, he received a forfeit in the Mustangs' record tying 60-0 win over Hastings, pinned his counterpart from Midland university, and won a 3-0 decision against the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics no. 4 Doane Tigers' Chinges Tsermaa, who is currently ranked no. 4 at the 174-pound weight class.

Wempen, who competes at the 184-pound weight class, is a junior from Riverton, Wyo.
