Mustangs cruise to victory over Northwestern

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – Morningside wrestling remained unbeaten in Great Plains Athletic Conference play with a 38-6 win over Northwestern Wednesday night in Orange City. 

It was a good night for the Mustangs overall, as they collected three pins, a technical fall, three major decisions and a decision. The three falls came from Nicholas Walters (3:42) in the 141-pound match, Zander Ernst (2:37) in the 165-pound match and Hunter DeJong (0:54) in the heavyweight match.

Hayden Wempen earned the 19-4 tech fall at 184. Evan Shell picked up a 16-6 major decision. John Deiner added a 12-3 major decision and Noah Styskal an 18-7 major decision. Benjamin Schmitz tallied a 4-0 decision in his 133-pound match.

Morningside is back in action Saturday at the Long Lines Family Rec Center in Sioux City for the GPAC Duals II. The Mustangs will be on the mat three times, facing Hastings at 11 a.m., Midland at 2 p.m. and Doane at 3:30 p.m.
