RV Mustangs sweep Eutectics in fast fashion
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A strong second set on Friday helped the Morningside University men's volleyball team sweep the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Allee Gymnasium.
The RV Mustangs won by set scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 25-21. In that second set, Morningside hit .350, had just three errors, and limited the Eutectics to minus-.129.
"We showed the ability to put a game away in the second set," said head coach Noah Marasco-Ayau. "It was a good mixture of obstacles that we had to jump through, and we did well. The biggest thing we focused on this week was mental. We have the talent. Not to stress themselves out and just go out and play volleyball."
Morningside's longest rally in the second frame was a 9-1 run, which also included scoring five straight points. Natan Alves and Michael Padilla recorded kills, assisted by Jacob DePauw.
Mohamed Benkrid and Alves helped close the match out with kills during the third set, while forcing the Eutectics to make a hitting error.
Alves led the Mustangs with 13 kills, while Liam Lutz recorded eight kills. Benkrid had seven.
DePauw had a team-high 21 assists, while Gabe Schreck contributed 13.
Owen Anderson led with 11 digs, and DePauw was close behind with 10.
Morningside turns around to play at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to play No. 7 Missouri Baptist.
