Mustangs fall in dogfight with no. 3 Grand View

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside made the no. 3 Grand View Vikings work for their Heart of American Conference win today. The Mustangs ended up losing the match in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-19, fighting until the end.

Morningside's back row kept the Vikings attack in check, as Tucker Juhnke and Jacob DePauw each had seven digs, Owen Anderson had six, and Natan Alves had five. Three block assists for Tharen Cox and two for Alves also contributed to GV's .266 hitting percentage.

Meanwhile the Mustangs tallied 37 kills, with Mohamed Benkrid striking for 10, Cox tallying eight, and Alves, Kirby Schmalz, and Liam Lutz each going for six. Lutz got time in a pair of matches, hitting .625 in the match. DePauw added 19 assists, while Gabe Schreck had nine.

Morningside is back on the court tomorrow, playing no. 5 William Penn at 11 a.m. in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.
