Morningside sees historic season come to a close

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Mustangs were featured in the GPAC Championship match for the first time, but it was ultimately the Jamestown Jimmies who came away with the three-set sweep and the win.

The Mustangs gave it their all, totaling 10 or more kills in each set against Jamestown Saturday, but the high-powered Jimmies didn't make enough errors for the Mustangs to steal the match. The Mustangs hit .119 for the match, and were even with the Jimmies in kills for the third set, but four more attacking errors in the third was the difference in a 25-21 set win for Jamestown.

Natan Alves shined in the championship, totaling a match-high 15 kills and a team-high nine digs. Isaiah Baynes added nine kills and six digs. Owen Anderson and Kirby Schmalz had eight digs apiece. Jacob DePauw tallied 29 set assists and six digs. Tharen Cox totaled four block assists.

The Mustangs see their 2024 campaign come to a close with the loss in the championship match, but a 17-15 overall record is the best record by winning percentage in program history, and the 17 wins is the most in a single season for the Mustangs.
