Mustangs advance to GPAC Semifinals with sweep of Central Christian

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Morningside swept Central Christian in the regular season, and continued that trend with a 25-9, 25-19, 25-15 win to make the GPAC Semifinals next weekend in Jamestown.

The Mustangs hit .524 in the first set to cruise to a 25-9 win. Morningside cooled in the following two sets, hitting .200 and .136, but still picking up convincing wins in each set. The Mustangs picked up 12 kills in each of the first two sets, adding nine in the third set.

Erik Krenz led the Mustangs with seven kills. Sam Benick had five more kills. Jacob Baynes led the team with 14 assists and Jacob DePauw added 11. DePauw also tied the career record for ace serves with one ace Saturday. Tucker Juhnke led the Mustangs with seven digs.

Morningside will face Dordt Friday in Jamestown. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m., prior to the second semifinal between Jamestown and Kansas Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
