Mustangs collect series sweep as regular season finale approaches

SALINA, KAN. – It took a tough five-set contest for the Mustangs to pick up the men's volleyball win today, collecting the season sweep over Kansas Wesleyan 3-2.

Morningside battled back from down 2-0 against the home Coyotes, who had defeated the Mustangs in a five-set non-conference game last week, winning their sets 25-20, 25-19, and 15-9.

Jacob DePauw was back in as setter for Morningside in the comeback, tallying 39 assists in the five sets. Natan Alves was the favorite target, striking for 17 kills. Isaiah Baynes tallied 14 kills, and Tharen Cox hit .235 for 12 kills.

The Mustangs' block was back, putting up a wall for nine total blocks. Sam Benick and Erik Krenz each had four blocks and Natan Alves and Jacob DePauw were in on three apiece.

Cox and Baynes each had 17 digs to lead the way behind the block. Alves and Owen Anderson had 16 each and DePauw had eight.

The Mustangs head into the final week of the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season, traveling to Jamestown on Thursday and Dordt on Saturday.
