DePauw reaches career milestone, Mustangs sweep opening day of KWU Classic

SALINA, KAN. – The Mustangs never trailed in today's opener, sweeping Central Christian in non-conference men's volleyball play, 25-11, 25-18, and 25-11. Morningside would go on to play Simpson College, sweeping them 25-19, 25-17, 25-12 at the Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Classic.

It was late in set two against Central Christian that Jacob DePauw reached the 2,000 career assist mark, ending the match with 30 assists. 

Isaiah Baynes tattooed 14 kills in the match, hitting .600 to lead all attackers in both categories. Baynes, in fact, tallied more kills than Central Christian's Tigers did as a team.

Behind Isaiah, Sam Benick and Michael Padilla each had six kills and Jacob Baynes and Branton Jones had five apiece.

Tucker Juhnke played in the libero spot for Morningside, tallying 12 digs. Isaiah Baynes followed with eight.

DePauw added another 29 assists to his tally for the day against Simpson, while Juhnke matched his earlier mark of 12 digs. 

Jacob Baynes led Morningside's attack in the nightcap, terminating 11 points with a .474 kill percentage. Isaiah Baynes tallied seven attacks with no errors for a .778 hitting percentage. Padilla matched with seven kills, while Benick had six and Jones had five.

The Mustangs return tomorrow for day two of the KWU Classic, playing St. Ambrose at noon and Kansas Wesleyan at 2:30 p.m.
