Two Mustangs earn GPAC Player of the Week awards

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Natan Alves and Jacob DePauw have been a tough duo to stop all season long, and last week's performances have earned them the GPAC Attacker and Setter of the Week awards for week four.

Alves, a sophomore from Vila Velha, Brazil, won his first Attacker of the Week honor for the season and his career this week. The outside hitter was tough to stop in the three matches he played, totaling 60 kills, 26 digs, and 10 blocks. He averaged 20 kills per match last week and 4.62 kills per set. Alves has 212 kills through 14 matches played this season and is 40 kills away from 500 in his career with the Mustangs.

DePauw, a junior from South Beloit, Illinois, received the Setter of the Week award for the third time this season and sixth time in his three-year career. DePauw totaled 155 assists over the course of four matches last week, averaging 9.69 assists per set. He added 26 digs, 10 kills, four blocks, and three service aces. For his career, DePauw sits at 1,981 assists with 9.17 assists per set. The three weekly awards this season for DePauw is the most in a single season for a Mustang. 

The Mustangs head to Kansas for four games Friday and Saturday. The Mustangs face Central Christian at 4:30 p.m. and Simpson at 7 p.m. Friday.
