Morningside sweeps Central Christian, 3-0

Mustangs cruise in regular season finale

MCPHERSON, KAN – The Mustangs locked themselves into the fourth spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference as they cruised to a three-set victory in the regular season finale at Central Christian.  Morningside's 25-9, 25-15, 25-12 victory came in the second meeting of the two teams this week.

Owen Anderson held an edge for Morningside's defense, recording nine of the team's 38 digs, but was closely tailed by Jacob Baynes and Dylan Hamil, who had eight each.  Jacob DePauw followed with seven.

The Mustangs' attack had another effective day, hitting .397 while striking for 40 kills.  Isaiah Baynes led the way in the kill column, hitting an impressive .423 on his way to 13 kills.  Baynes was overshadowed, though, as Erik Krenz, who had 11 kills in 15 attempts, hit at a .600 kill percentage.

Dishing the ball on the day was DePauw, who recorded 33 assists.  He also recorded four kills of his own in five attempts.

Morningside's wins this week put it in a position to host a play-in game for the GPAC Postseason Tournament on March 26.  The bracket will be announced by the GPAC at gpacsports.com and posted at msidemustangs.com when it becomes available.
