Morningside Men's Volleyball vs Jamestown

Morningside falls in Jamestown sweep

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs welcomed league-leading and no. 6 in the nation Jamestown to Allee Gymnasium today, marking the final time the two teams would meet in the 2022 regular season.  The Jimmies lived up to their ranking, sweeping Morningside, 25-13, 25-15, and 25-12.

"Jamestown is a great team that pushes its opponents to the limits," remarked Addison Mertler, coach of the Mustangs.  "We have to focus on playing our game and the things that we can control."

Morningside's offense was held quiet, recording only 20 kills in the straight sets match.  Isaiah Baynes led the team, with seven kills, followed by his twin, Jacob, with six.  Setter Jacob DePauw recorded 13 assists in the match.

A Jamestown team with a distinct height advantage countered Morningside's block throughout the night, with the hosts only recording three blocks.  Erik Krenz and Dylan Hamil led the way on the defensive front, with two block assists each.

Owen Anderson led in the digs column, with eight of the team's 17 total digs.

"This weekend was meant to test us going into the later half of the season.  We get a lot of rest next week, so we're pushing hard through this one," remarked Mertler.

The Mustangs return to the court tomorrow, looking for a rematch with St. Ambrose in a quadrangular hosted by William Penn.
