Mustangs shine at Sioux City Relays

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – At their home facility, the Mustangs put together a strong showing at the Sioux City Relays Friday and Saturday at Elwood Olsen Stadium.

Leighton Olesen had a strong performance in the 100 and 200-meters, running an 11.02 in the prelims, but setting a personal best of 10.86 in the finals to place third in the 100, and ran 22.17 for fifth in the 200. In the 110 hurdles, Eli Ebel qualified with a time of 16.9, and despite running a slower 17.06 in the finals, he improved from seventh to fifth place. Boston Riedemann just missed out on a finals spot, running 17.56 for 10th.

Jack Kling placed 13th in the 200 (23.26) and the 400 (51.78). Ebel also ran in the 400 hurdles, taking 11th in a time of 1:02.96. Easton Patterson ran 1:04.12 for 13th. In the 10,000-meters, Eein McKinley placed 10th in a time of 34:31.14.

Four Mustangs placed inside the top 15 in the 1,500, led by a fifth place from Garrett Hanson in a time of 4:08.01. Braden Sonksen (4:22.8), RC Hicks (4:22.9), and Casey Kruger (4:23.63) placed 11th, 12th, and 14th respectively. Hanson and Kruger were the top two Mustangs in the 800, running 2:00.28 and 2:00.52 respectively.

Morningside ran one relay over the weekend, the 4x400, where the team of Hicks, Hanson, Rodrigo Lopez, and Sonksen placed fifth with a time of 3:36.32.

In the field events, Keyan Fulton took second in the javelin (51.94 meters), eighth in the shot put (13.4 meters), and 10th in the discus (39.09 meters). He was also Morningside's top thrower in the hammer throw at 38.22 meters). 

Morningside had a strong showing overall in the javelin, as Luke Paulsen added a third place finish with a heave of 47.46 and Austin McClain took fifth at 43.99. Tom Moss (43.47), John Groetken (40.47), and Easton Patterson (39.61) placed sixth through eighth in the event. Paulsen also took 12th in the discus at 37 meters.

The Mustangs are at the Red Raider Open Friday and Saturday.
