
Mustang have nine top-tens at Wayne
WAYNE, NEB. – Morningside men's track and field team made its outdoor debut at the 2023 Wayne State Wildcat Classic this weekend, competing against a field of National Collegiate Athletic Association and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics teams.
The Mustangs' best showing came in the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Tyson Spradling, Kadyn Cline, Tyler Janssen, and David Hernandez took second place in a time of 3:30.77. Morningside's "B" team placed ninth, as RC Hicks, Tanner Arens, Casey Kruger, and Parker Halder crossed the line in 3:42.49.
400-meters seemed to be the Mustangs' distance for the day, as Ashton Banker, Cline, and Spradling all placed in the top 10 in the 400-meter dash individually. Banker finished fifth in 52.30 seconds, Cline placed eighth in 52.44 seconds, and Spradling was ninth in 52.72 seconds. Hernandez placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles, completing the lap in 1:00.06.
Austin Freiberg placed second in the 110-meter hurdles, mirroring the success he had in the shorter indoor event, running the event in 14.76 seconds.
On the field side of the weekend, Jonathan Hodges placed sixth in the javelin, throwing 39.22 meters, with Tom Moss close behind in eighth place at 38.30 meters.
Morningside is next scheduled to compete in the Central Methodist Invite in Fayette, Mo. on April 1.
