
Singles sweep gives Mustangs statement win over no. 22 McPherson
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – The Mustangs faced their biggest test of the season as the no. 22 McPherson Bulldogs stood across the net from the receiving votes Mustangs. Morningside not only rose to the occasion, but blanked the Bulldogs 7-0, making a case for moving up in the next ratings.

Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth put Morningside on the board as they opened doubles play with a 6-1 win. Mark Trenkle and Santiago Minetti locked down the doubles point with a 7-6 win, winning the tiebreaker 7-1, after McPherson had equalized with a win at the no. 2 spot..
Minetti was quick to build on Morningside's lead, winning 6-1, 6-1. Alexis Diaz added a 6-3, 6-3 victory, and Marcos Menendez Hervella clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The Mustangs weren't done, though, as they would go on to make a statement with a 6-3, 6-1 victory by Arnold. Trenkle added on a 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker, 6-1 win, and Gerth completed the sweep, coming back from a 5-7 loss to win 6-2, 10-3.
Morningside's varsity squad is not back on the court until early March, as the Mustangs play Spring Arbor as part of their spring break trip to South Carolina.
