
Men's Tennis moves to 12-3 with Northwestern shutout
ORANGE CITY, IOWA – Morningside pushed its current win streak to five as the Mustangs kept another opponent scoreless, defeating Northwestern 7-0.
Morningside quickly gained an advantage, pulling ahead in doubles as Mark Trenkle and Gustav Sjoberg won no. 1 doubles 6-4. Santiago Minetti and Skander Ben Abdallah followed at no. 2 doubles with a matching 6-4 score, and Winyou Asavaruangchai and Abhishek Mohapatra won 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker.
Minetti was first in the books in singles play, winning 6-1, 6-0. Sjoberg followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and Trenkle sealed the team victory for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 6-2 win at no. 1 singles.
Ben Abdallah needed a tiebreaker to take the no. 3 singles match, but a decisive 7-0 win gave him a 7-6 advantage and set the wheels in motion for a 6-0 win in set two. Mikhil Raja added a 6-4, 6-1 win, and a 6-4, 6-1 victory for Eduard Cardelus completed the sweep.
Morningside's next outing comes on Friday as the Mustangs host Augustana University at 4:30 p.m. at the Mason Family Tennis Complex.
