Mustangs collect fourth consecutive shutout vs Hastings

HASTINGS, NEB. – Morningside's men's tennis team had an easy break as it faced a shorthanded Hastings squad, needing to win as few as one doubles match and one singles match to secure a win. The Mustangs stayed focused, however, and left Hastings with a 7-0 win in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

It was Winyou Asavaruangchai and Abhishek Mohapatra that got the free pass in doubles play, giving Morningside an early edge. Santiago Minetti and Skander Ben Abdallah gave the Mustangs the doubles point, winning their match 6-1. Mark Trenkle and Gustav Sjoberg completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win.

Mikhil Raja and Eduard Cardelus took the pair of forfeits on the singles side, giving Morningside a 3-0 lead before any other singles draw began play. Ben Abdallah was the Mustang to secure the win, picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at no. 3 doubles.

Minetti followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Trenkle won 6-2, 6-2, and Sjoberg shut down his opponent to win 6-0, 6-0 to complete the sweep.

Morningside travels to Northwestern to complete the men's side of that matchup, playing in Orange City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
