
Knights toppled as Morningside picks up 5-2 tennis victory
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEB. – The Mustang men completed the sweep of the spring home opener weekend today, defeating the Carleton College Knights 5-2.
Morningside set the match in the right direction as it took all three doubles matches for the team doubles point. Abhishek Mohapatra and Winyou Asavaruangchai won no. 3 doubles 6-1 before Mark Trenkle and Gustav Sjoberg clinched the point with a 6-3 victory. Santiago Minetti and Skander Ben Abdallah sweetened the deal with a 7-6 victory with a 7-4 tiebreaker in no. 2 doubles.
Sjoberg was first off the court in no. 4 singles, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Ben Abdallah gave the Mustangs a 3-1 advantage as he picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at no. 3 singles, and Mark Trenkle sealed the win for Morningside with a 6-3, 6-3 win at no. 1 singles. Mikhil Raja was last to score for the Mustangs with a 5-7, 7-5, 10-3 victory.
Morningside will return to the courts on March 2, playing Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa at 12 p.m.
