Mustangs record 19 top-10 placings at KCAC finale

ELKHART, IND. – The Mustang men made their mark in the pool in this year's Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, with 19 events finishing in the top 10 spots at the three-day meet. 

John Spicer's third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle was Morningside's best placing, as the freshman touched the wall in 1:42.77. He also placed no. 4 in the 100-yard freestyle and no. 5 in the 50-yard freestyle, with times of 46.53 and 21.29, respectively.

Spicer was part of all five Morningside relays that appeared in the top finals flight, as the Mustangs took fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:07.92) with teammates Jacob Bolda, Walker Goebel, and Willy Pinnow

Spicer, Cael Jensen, Bradley Palmer, and Jack LaRue took the no. 6 spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 1:27.15. Subbing Jensen for Pinnow resulted in a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:10.94).

The Mustangs also added a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 200- and 400-yard medley relays, with Jensen, Caden Morton, Goebel, and Spicer uniting for a 1:37.25 finish in the shorter race and Pinnow, Morton, Goebel, and Spicer swimming to a 3:31.83 finish in the 400 medley.

Pinnow had top-10 finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (no. 5, 1:44.37), 200-yard backstroke (no. 6, 1:58.14), and 100-yard backstroke (no. 8, 53.71). Morton was in the final heat in the 200-yard breaststroke (no. 6, 2:15.27), the 100-yard breaststroke (no. 6, 59.77), and the 200-yard individual medley (no. 8, 2:01.21).

Bolda turned in top-10 finishes in three events, the 400-yard individual medley (no. 6, 4:19.94), the 500-yard freestyle (no. 7, 4:52.70), and the 200-yard backstroke (no. 7, 1:58.46). Goebel also finished in the top 10 in a pair of events, the 200-yard butterfly (no. 7, 2:00.84) and the 400-yard individual medley (no. 9, 4:24.49).
