Mustangs swim in Saint Paul

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Morningside's men's swimming was back in action in Minnesota, as the Mustangs competed in the Roger Ahlman Invitational, hosted by Macalester College.

Opening session one, the Mustangs had a pair of relay quartets finish in second place, with the 400-yard medley relay team of Jake Bolda, Caden Morton, MK Mkhize, and John Spicer finishing their race in 3:35.37. 

Alejandro Plaza was Morningside's top finisher in the 1650-yard freestyle, taking second place with a time of 17:41.62.

Jack LaRue and Spicer sprinted their way to the top-ten in the 50-yard freestyle. Spicer placed third in 21.73 seconds and LaRue placed fifth in  22.43 seconds.

Walker Goebel had a good swim as he finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:03.31. 

To conclude day one, session one, Bolda, Plaza, Mkhize, and Goebel paired together for a third place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:31.50.

Morningside top-five finishes of session two and three included the following:

  • Bolda placed second in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:20.27, and first place in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.74.

  • Goebel placed fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:28.35 and third place in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.30.

  • Alec McEntaffer placed fifth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:34.09.

  • Plaza placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.78 and second place in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.71.

  • Morton placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.68 and fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:16.01.

  • Bradley Palmer placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.06 and third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.06.

  • Spicer placed second in the 100-yard backstroke at 55.47 and third in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.40.

  • Palmer, Morton, Mkhize, and Spicer placed second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.87.

  • Jensen, Spicer, LaRue, and Morton took the second place  spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.48

  • Spicer, LaRue, Palmer, and Goebel took another second place spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:14.26.

Morningside is back in its home pool for competition in January for the Minnesota-Morris meet at the Hindman-Hobbs Center.
