Spicer headlines Morningside performances at Saint Peter

SAINT PETER, MINN. – Morningside's men's swimming season continues on, as the Mustangs competed in the Grace Goblirsch Invite, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.

John Spicer was Morningside's top finisher, taking the title in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.43 seconds. He also placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing the sprint in 22.43.

The Mustangs had a pair of relay quartets finish in fourth place, with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of MK Mkhize, Jack La Rue, Bradley Palmer, and Spicer finishing their race in 1:30.74. Spicer, La Rue, and Palmer were paired with Walker Goebel for the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 3:19.33.

Other Morningside top-ten finishes included the following:

  • Walker Goebel finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:07.43. He also finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.94.

  • Jake Bolda third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.60, seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.87, and ninth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.30.

  • Bradley Palmer placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.37 and eighth in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.95.

  • Alejandro Plaza took seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 18:50.83 and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:15.64.

  • MK Mkhize finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.15 and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.94.

  • Ethan Van Tassel placed eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing in 20:29.22.

  • Caden Morton picked up a pair of ninth place finishes, completing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.80 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:26.67.

  • Cael Jensen placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.11.

  • Jack La Rue took the ninth spot in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.09 and tied for 10th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.00.

  • Mitchel Cross finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 23:05.64.

  • Alec McEntaffer placed 10th in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:52.86.

  • In the 200-yard Medley, Bolda, Morton, Mkhize, and Spicer placed seventh in 1:42.27. Palmer, Jacob Haase, Goebel, and La Rue placed 10th in 1:44.97.

  • Mkhize, Plaza, Jensen, and Morton placed eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:30.49.

  • Morton, Plaza, Haase, and Jensen took the no. 9 spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:36.99.

Morningside is back in action this weekend, competing in MacAlester University's Roger Ahlman Invitational.
