Morningside names pair to academic all-district, scholar athlete list

Morningside adds a pair to NAIA Scholar Athlete, CSC Academic All-District lists

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its Daktronics Scholar Athletes for men's swimming today, with the honorees being announced ahead of the national championships in Columbus, Ga.

Morningside had two athletes qualify for the scholar-athlete distinction this year, Easton Gelinne and Matthew Hanner. Both athletes also achieved the status of Academic All-District from College Sports Communicators and will advance in the Academic All-American voting process.

In order to qualify for the NAIA scholar athlete program, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5, appear on a sport's eligibility certificate, and have attended one full year at the current institution.

The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for a combination of success on the field and in the classroom, requiring that nominees maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and participate in at least 50 percent of games played in a season. This is the first year that CSC has recognized men's and women's swimming independently, as both have fallen into the at-large grouping for nominations.

College Sports Communicators, formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors Association, is a group of 3,200+ strategic, creative, and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada.
