Morningside bests Midland in final home meet of 2022-23

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Mustang swimmers hit the water in their home pool one last time on Saturday afternoon, as the teams prepare for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which take place in February.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the first event of the day, Cody Natali, Caden Morton, MK Mkhize, and JR Albers placed second with a time of 1:41.58.

Willy Pinnow was the top Mustang in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:48.05 for first place.

Walker Goebel swam a time of 2:06.89 in the 200-yard individual medley, good for second place. In the same event Natali and Gabe Marthaler placed fourth and fifth with times of 2:15.83 and 2:27.77.

Goebel also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 55.77.

Morningside was well-represented in the 100-yard freestyle, where Morton touched the wall in first place with a time of 51.30, Bradley Palmer placed second at 52.29, and Cael Jensen placed third at 53.67.

Natali swam a time of 55.39 for a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Pinnow and Easton Gelinne finished in second and fourth place with times of 56.32 and 1:00.11.

In the 500-yard freestyle Matthew Hanner touched the wall in third place with a time of 5:44.01 and Ben No touched the wall in fourth place with a time of 6:00.54.

In the final individual event for the night, the 100-yard breaststroke, Jacob Haase and Marthaler placed third and fourth with times of 1:08.19 and 1:09.38.

Concluding the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay of Albers, Mkhize, Morton and Pinnow had a strong first place finish with a time of 1:29.78.

Morningside's swimmers will be on the road Saturday, Jan. 28 for the Hamline University Invitational in St. Peter, Minn.
